I got Windows XP as my OS. Mozilla has started to "fail" at loading web pages and or takes forever to load them. My desktop is fast at all other things and my internet connection is fine taking into consideration I can play online games, download stuff(even though it takes forever to get to the page lol), etc etc. To get a desired web page to show up I have to keep refreshing the page. Often times it will go black white and the status bar will say: Done.
Disable all your addons temporarily, then restart Firefox. If this fixes it, re-enable the addons one at a time, restarting after each one until the problem comes back.
Its what solved my problem, yours sounds similar. I unistalled AVG and changed to a different antivirus. My webpages now load normally. Try it and see, i dont know if its the cause of the problem but its a fix for me. Hope it helps.
Try using Eset Smart Security as a new anti virus. i didn't post the link because forum rules state that don't post a software not analyzed by the experts so just do it by your self or simply consult first the experts .
If you like using Firefox but aren't happy with the "slow" issues,. why not try "Cometbird 3.6" It's made by mozilla and the GUI look almost identical to firefox so you won't experience any learning curve. It's also quite lean without the bloat that Firefox seems to have packed on in recent times.
Cometbird is definitely a faster alternative to Firefox and I.E.
Check it out here: http://download.cnet.com/CometBird/3000-2356_4-11262335.html
I've been using Firefox for years and started using Cometbird last week. It can use Firefox addons and seems to be a bit faster and lighter on resources.
You're welcome Koala,.. the only thing I can't get to work with Cometbird is "McAfee Site Advisor", Not really a problem 'cos WOT works just fine !
