I don't think they let you uninstall IE from vista.

And no, I wouldn't uninstall IE, there are still some sites incompatible with firefox. And if you really need to view a page for work or school right away, then you do not want to take the chance of having to search for and download Internet Explorer (IE) at the last minute.

Although if you are able to uninstall IE, you could reinstall a lighter, older version of IE.

Also, there could be other things slowing you down. Press ALT+CTRL+Delete then go to task manager.

Have media player IE or some other program to use as benchmark and look at the memory usage.

If you have programs running that seem to be using a lot of memory, investigate what they are and if you need them running. If not, then uninstall, close, or change there settings so they are not running all the time.

But it could be your antivirus software is the hog.

Also Firefox may be the problem. If you have too many extension or even a large theme, you could be using up a lot of memory. Too many add-ons can be a bad thing.

No chance on uninstalling Explorer. I hate it as well and it takes allot of resources to run. I heard that windows 7 will give you the option to uninstall.

Send a message via AIM to Deersindal

It is a good idea to keep internet explorer, as I know of one site in particular that needs it: Windows Update

Unless you plan on never getting a service pack, I would keep IE, as XP refuses to open WE on anything but IE.

there will be some sites that are not firefox compatible. Besides it is always nice to have a second browser in cause you suspect browser problems. One other thing, as already mentioned, you cannot uninstall it.

My System

It will not hurt anything...to leave IE installed...It will just sit there...not causing any problems...until needed.

Mostly fringe site with a narrow spectrum of traffic. Which just happen to be all the important ones such as government sites and schools as well as company sites for job applications.

These sites rarely update which is the problem. So I wouldn't suggest updating your IE cause they have trouble with the latest versions of that too.

some online banks, microsoft's website, some government sites, and the list goes on.

In addition lazy webmasters who uses frontpage and other micorosoft web creation products and won't modify their website to work with other browsers.

You just never know when you may run across one. That is why there is a firefox addon that will open pages in msie.

Not really, because you can't uninstall the new one. I warned you to stick with the older lighter version.

I tried to switch back to the old IE myself and was unsuccessful. But maybe someone else knows how to do it.

According to me , there is no need to keep internet explorer , if you are using Firefox
But it my suggestion , not to remove it on your computer .

You can install an add on for Firefox called IE tab. This basically eliminates the need to use IE but you should need to keep it installed.

As for the reversion to an earlier version I'm afraid that you are stuck with the new one. Unless you want to do a reinstall of your OS.
