I currently have a Gateway MT3708 laptop and recently I have to play with AC charger jack in order to get a charge. It seems the laptop does not recognize the charger. A friend suggested it might be the battery. When I take the battery out the computer, with the charger connected, it does not receive any power so I can't turn it on, unless I move the AC charger jack around until its detected. One slight movement of the charger cord and bamm power's out.

I was willing to purchase a docking station, attach it where the battery is currently located but I haven't found one for my computer.

1. Can I solve the problem with out any expensive tooling?
2. Is there a universal docking station that will allow me to get a charge?
3. If 1 and 2 fail how much should I expect to pay for the fix?(in the US) Geek Squad, or Fry's for example/

Looks like a problem with the DC-IN jack connection (this is where adapter output jack plugs into the laptop). How are you in taking apart a laptop and soldering? If you are good/skilled in both then I believe you can do the fix/replacement.
