my gateway laptop screen goes off randomly. It sudenly sarted going off for a week. then, it would not turn on, so i had to hook my laptop up to a monitor or the tv to use it. Then I went on vacation for a month, and when I got back, the monitor came on, and still does, but only for about 30 seconds. If I push the function key to toggle between my monitor and the laptop screen, the screen will come on again and again, but only for like 10-30 seconds at a time. Why wont it stay on?

I dont understand your question. Do you mean, does the screen come on at all or do you mean, when it goes off can I still see a faint image with a flashlight?

thanks, is there anyway to tell whether its the lcd vs the inverter board?

Also, is there anyway it could just be a conflict?

No it is not a conflict, and you would need a multi meter to test if your nor comfortable in attempting the repair yourself take it in for repair,if you are comfortable then finding the service manual would be a help to you

Do you have the service manual as you can usually get the part numbers list in them
