laptop restarts on its own

hi, im having some weird restarting problem with my laptop which i bought new a while ago.

toshiba m105-s3041: intel core solo, 512 mb ram

when I close my lid of my laptop, its supposed to just close the monitor but not hibernate or shutdown, but sometimes I close my lid, and after awhile if i open it back up, it seems to restart immediately. Also, I'm not sure if its just in my head, but it seems to restart more often when its not connected to the ac adaptor, but the battery isnt low either.

and it also restarts sometimes when I boot up my computer from both a cold-boot or from hibernation. It would sometimes restart over and over in this case usually from hibernation... like it would reach the Windows XP loading progress bar screen, but restart, and then restart again, and again, and again...

So I was hoping someone can see what my problem is and hopefully i can fix it.

Thanks in advance, any help is appreciatd.

Hi and welcome to TSF. It sounds like your system is crashing at certain points. Right click on My Computer and click Properties. Click the Advanced tab and click the third Settings button under Startup and Recovery. Uncheck Automatically restart under System Failure. Click OK and OK. Next time it crashes, it should actually give you a blue screen. Please write down the contents of the blue screen such as verbose information or any numbers it gives you.

Re: laptop restarts on its own

Hi laboye, thanks for the help.

i saw the blue screenthis time from booting up my computer from a hibernation:

I think this is the important stuff:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xAAC0A77E)

RtkHDAud.sys - Address AAC0A77E base at AABB3000, DateStamp 439944e5

Beginning dump of physical memory
dump complete.

and that's it.

Hi,

Boot into Safe Mode by pressing (and holding if necessary) the F8 key right after the Toshiba logo disappears. Once you see the boot menu, select Safe Mode.

Once you are in Windows, go into Device manager and uninstall the following device under Sound, video, and game controllers: Realtek HD Audio

Then, reboot, and start up normally. This should solve the issue. If you are having sound issues, you can install the latest driver from the Toshiba website.

Are you using Windows XP or Vista? I think that laptop came with Windows Vista on it.

Anyway, if you are running Vista, try uninstalling the sound driver and insalling this driver.

Try to stay in safe mode. This will tell if it is a driver issue.
