Hey guys.

My laptop's always run fairly hot. It's an Acer Aspire 5738PG (I'll post full specs later) that I bought around Christmas. I always noticed it running hot, but not more so recently than any other time.

Anyways, just in the past few weeks it's begun shutting down at random times while I was using it. There's no warning or anything, and no normal shutdown process - it just fades to black nearly instantly, all power lights off. It's always plugged in, and I know for sure that I'm not doing anything to cause it to happen.

Usually, when it happens (me being a WoW nerd =P) I've got WoW and a few Firefox tabs open. I rarely have anything else open at all, and f it is, it's usually iTunes or Minesweeper, or another Windows game =).

My computer's specs, straight from the manufacturer, are as follows.

CPU: 2.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600
Operating System: MS Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
RAM: 4GB
Hard Drive Size: 320GB
Hard Drive Speed 5,400rpm
Hard Drive Type: SATA Hard Drive
Display Size: 15.6
Native Resolution: 1366x768
Optical Drive: DVD /- RW
Optical Drive Speed: 8X
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 4570
Video Memory: 512MB
Wi-Fi: 802.11a/b/g/draft-n
Ports (excluding USB): Ethernet; HDMI; Headphone; Microphone; Modem; S/PDIF; VGA
USB Ports: 4
Card Slots: 5-1 card reader
Warranty/Support One-year limited/Toll-free phone Mon--Fri 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (EST)
Size 15.1 x 9.9 x 1.0 inches
Weight: 6.1 pounds

I haven't made any hardware upgrades. I've downloaded all Windows updates as they've been released. I run Trend Micro PC-Cillin as my antivirus program.

From what I've read, it seems like it could either be a heat issue or a PSU issue. I've provided as much info as I think is useful, if you guys need any more feel free to ask and I'll figure it out as soon as I can.

Thanks.

are you able to start right up? or do you have to wait a few minutes?
looks like it is still under warranty, you may want to contact them in case it is a common issue for that specific model.
