Okay, so for one I'm new here and this is my very first post.

Now, my brother gave me his old laptop and at first the screen was only blacked out in parts until the internal screen must have just gave out. Either way, I no longer have ANY picture at all. I have a spare monitor and I would like to hook up my laptop to it but I am not sure how. I have plugged in the monitor and tried a few keyboard shortcuts that a friend suggested but got nothing.

My laptop has Windows Vista on it, it's a Compaq (I think Presario V6000).
So any help would be highly appreciated.

My System

Does the monitor work?

-Connect the monitor to the Laptop and power on.
-Power on the laptop.
-Press Fn+F4 to toggle the display to the external monitor. Any changes?

If you are unable to get display on a known good external monitor then you

may have an issue with the graphics chip/motherboard
