I bought a new SATA 500 GB HD to go in my HP Pavilion dv9000 into the 2nd HD bay. The physical installation is easy, but the notebook locks up when booting. I had gone thru the process of installing XP on the drive via the restore disks bf putting it in.

How do i get it to just add the drive as a second drive for storage, etc? Since there are no jumpers on the drive to make it a slave, is it a dual boot problem?

I'm new to the forums, so I appreciate any help on this. Great job on the website!

Check this HP DV9000 fact sheet (see link below). It says Dual hard disk drive option combined capacity is 240GB only.

Sorry, but i didn't see a fact sheet link.

Also, when i installed xp (via the restore discs) as the primary (and only) drive, afterwards it showed almost 500GB's of free space.

I guess my question is, should i just format the big drive so there's no boot sector?
