Whenever I go to power up my HP pavillion entertainment dv6700 laptop, it starts to turn on and then turns off a second later, turns back on, off, etc. I've tried a hard reset and cleaning it out, but no luck. I also read to remove the motherboard battery for a half hour and that didn't work either. The power lights do come on and I hear the fan, but there is no beeping or light sequences and I cannot access bios. pressing the "esc" button prevents it from turning off but it still just remains a black screen and pressing buttons doesn't do anything more. From other sources I've looked at, they say I need to replace my motherboard. I am just wondering if there is anything else I can check before going through with replacing it?

Also, I can save myself hundreds of dollars if I replace the motherboard myself. Would you suggest doing this or just go to a service and fork out the cash?

My System

Take a look at the below thread and follow the steps.

Try removing the different components and see if anything changes.

Are you getting any flashing LED's? Caps Lock? Scroll Lock?

Hi Cuethemusic

I am having the same issue, did you find out what the problem was or did you have to replace MB?

Thanks
Andrew

This is a very old thread in forum terms and unlikely that the poster will be coming back.

Suggest you open your own thread where someone will assist you.
