STOP! and Backup ALL your personal information to external usb hard drive, flash drive, and cd/dvd discs, or online Cloud storage account such as Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive before proceeded further.

Both the July and August Microsoft push updates have had some issues; they can't all be repaired. But here's a short list of things to try once you've completed the backup of your critical data to external media:

1.) Roll your System back using "System Restore".
2.) Use Windows Disc and boot to it changing the boot order of your BIOS when the laptop first turns on; go into Windows RE (Recovery Console) and run C:CHKDSK /R /F. This procedure scans and remaps flaws on your hard drive where windows systems files lives and checks integrity of hard drive surace. This may take several hours even overnight depending on the size of your hard drive. Do NOT interrupt until completion.
3.) Repeat steps in #2 above to get to Windows RE and this time run SFC /SCANNOW; this will check the integrity of your Windows boot and system files; and if any are damaged or missing it will attempt to repair them. Again do NOT interrupt until completion.
>>>>If neither #2 or #3 or neither finishes without error, your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced!<<<<
4.) Use the FACTORY RECOVERY DISCS that came with the laptop when it was new out of the box to reset your Windows. This is a complete reinstalltion of Windows, drivers, and all programs that were originally on the laptop when you bought it
5.) If you don't have the RECOVERY DISCS, there is a utility on most laptops today to create a set if you didn't get the discs, or you aren't the original owner of the laptop (by the way it would be helpfuly to know the make/model of the laptop you are asking us to help you with)
6.) If per #5 you don't have RECOVERY DISCS, or you cannot make them, you can attempt to run the FACTORY RESET from the Hidden partition already installed on most modern laptops (2003 and newer). If the Reset or Restore Partition doesn't work, it's very likely that your hard drive has failed or you have a virus that compromised the Hidden Partition. In either case you'll have to proceed to #7 if this is true.
7.) Call or Email the manufacturer of your laptop and order a set of RECOVERY DISCS; these will run anywhere from about $15-$99 and you will get in 1-3 weeks at least in the U.S. International of course could be longer depending on your location and the location of the laptop manufacturer. Once you get the RECOVERY DISCS, apply them and try to reset your laptop. If this fails, most likely your hard drive has failed or another hardware component, and the reason that the Microsoft Update failed is that you're laptop has experienced a catastrophic hardware failure.

If RECOVERY fails both the Factory disc set or the Hidden Partition your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.

Also, have you dropped that laptop recently, or anyone you've loaned it to? I get Customers who have loaned out their laptops to a friend, or family member, only to get it back and not have it fail until the next Microsoft push update comes out and it cannot process all the updates due to a new hardware failure.

Post back your results and we can advise you further.
