Laptop was infected with a Rootkit virus that impacted the MBR. I appeared to have cleaned that, though not sure if the virus was the cause of the disappearing DVD.

I did a factory reset of the laptop but still no DVD.

Here are some questions/answers to help us get started -

>> Do you see the DVD drive listed in "Computer" explorer? double click on it to open.

No, the DVD drive is not listed

>> Do you see the DVD drive listed in the device manager??

No, the DVD drive is not listed

>> Is the DVD drive listed in the BIOS?

According to BIOS, CD-ROM Boot is enabled

The Boot Order is -

ATAIP CD\DVD Rom Drive
Notebook Harddrive
USB Harddrive
USB Diskette on Key
USB Floppy
Network Adapter (disabled)

The laptop does not boot from an external USB drive

Changing the Boot Order (F9) defaults to the Notebook Harddrive with no other drives being displayed

BIOS is Phoenix, version F.2A

This is driving me crazy.

Hello GrandNagus and welcome to TSF,

Have you attempted to boot from the drive?

Remove the DVD drive and reinstall it, making sure it is seated properly.
