Help me go back in time with my Documents!

Hi everyone on the forum,

I sincerely apologize if this topic/issue has been addressed already. I own a Presario 700 laptop. It was a hand-me-down from my sister because I am poor and cannot afford to buy a new one.

So anyway, the laptop was attacked by a bunch of viruses and I loaned it to a "friend" to help me clean it up. He ended up erasing all of my documents to start fresh. Now, of course, he can't recover them, and I really, really need one particular Word document. I even took my laptop to a tech support place but they couldn't help either.

So, please, for the love of God, can someone help me?? How can I re-set my computer to go "back in time" to a date before my "friend" screwed everything up? I did this once before, although I don't remember how to do it now.

My biggest concern is recovering this document. And then I'll invest my money in a new laptop.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Re: Help me go back in time with my Documents!

Thanks Joe! I actually did download one of the programs from the link you provided, but no dice. I think the only thing I can do at this point is to re-set my computer.

I remember doing this once last year when I messed up something else. After panic set in, I started randomly clicking around and found a feature where I can take my computer back to a certain date (of my choosing) and somehow the computer restarts and reboots back to that date. Anything done after that date is not registered.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? HELP!

You mean system restore? start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.
But I don't see how this is going to help you, as system restore doesn't change your documents. Also, you had a fresh install anyway (hence loosing your documents).

Dude, I don't know if what I'm talking about is system restore. (Hence the name, TechDummy) I am just hoping that my computer can somehow go "back in time" to before my ******* "friend" erased everything.

So you think system restore won't do the trick?

Nah, you only real hope is to just keep trying out different recovery programs to try and get it back that way.
Don't add more stuff to your hard drive for the time being - the more stuff that's on there, the less likely chance you have of getting it back.
