Gateway M-7305u downgrade - no audio

I received the M-7305u during a Black Friday deal, and have been stuck up with Vista for a while. I'm a pretty big gamer, and I travel often, but Vista really hates the games I play heh. My games would lag bad etc, so I finally decided to downgrade back to what I'm used to, XP.

The downgrade went fine, XP installed without any problems. I found most all of my drivers, heck even the built in webcam and cardreaders work! My games run fine, too. There's just one major problem. I can't find ANYWHERE to get sound drivers for this laptop.

Heck, this model is pretty much non-existant (that I've come across). I haven't found a single support board that ANYONE has ever asked about the model.

I did do a bit of research for other Gateway laptops, and users have said to use XP sound drivers from another Gateway laptop. Well, I've downloaded about 15 of them and none have successfully installed. They give errors like "Could not find the media device for this driver".

Vista's drivers were previously "Conexant HD Audio" drivers, and I've downloaded as many of these driverpacks that I could find. One of them successfully installed..it was from HP, but after I rebooted, I guess the computer didn't accept the driver. Device Manager still shows that annoying yellow question mark next to "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus"

I would love sound on XP, but I can learn to live without it. I just can't go back to Vista..it's too much of a resource hog.

Here's a list of drivers that I have tried which I haven't deleted yet.

Oh right...one minor problem as well. XP doesn't detect the built in bluetooth at ALL. There's nothing in device manager, and when I install Broadcom XP drivers, it tells me I don't have a bluetooth adapter plugged in.

Hi,

Kindly check in Device Manager and see if you have UNKNOWN devices and those with red or yellow marks. If you do, right-click on the device and select Properties... click on Details tab and copy the Device Instance ID... include that in your reply.

Thanks.

The only devices that have yellow marks are:

Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus - HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5051&SUBSYS_107B0390&REV_1000\4&395CBA01&0&0001

Re: Gateway M-7305u downgrade - no audio

Sound works, although the built in speaker doesn't. No biggie.

The modem driver gave me a BSoD when installing, not a problem if it isn't installed either.

Thanks for those drivers.

Still no audio? Install this http://downloadmirror.intel.com/11036/eng/kb888111.exe

If still not functioning, check Sound/Audio Properties in Control Panel, may be you just need to setup some things there.

Btw, try installing this for the modem: http://www.conexant.com/support/files/HSFhda_WinXP.zip. My bad on the link previously... I missed the 'High Definition Audio Bus' on the name.
