function key

Mistake

hi
on my dell inspiration laptop running win xp, my function key (fn) is working in reverse.
it works as if it is pressed in all the time and to get the correct key use e.g. the letter on the key , i have to hold down the fn key
if any body has any ideas how to clear thisd porblem i would be much appriciated

model:- latitude LS
bios date :- 11-21-00
service tag :- jd7410j
as i bought the machine second hand i cant tell you how old it its

Hi Brian, Welcome to TSF,

Have you checked to make non of the functions that are turned on using the function key are turned on (eg. NumLock etc)

Also, what happens when you press the key without holding down the Fn key?

many thanks for that as i said it is a second hand machine so no operating instructions
but after your help i checked all the keys and found the pad lock key was on
once i repressed it the keys all worked correctly.
