Dell screen turns black

Hi all,

I have a problem (again) with my old laptop, Dell XPS M140. When I turned it on, I could still see the Dell logo, but then after that the screen turned black.
I have tried several things, from trying press F8 button to go into safe mode (nothing happened...The screen still black). I also tried to pull out the battery out-press the power button, it didn't work either.

Can someone help me with this issue? What should i do to fix this? Thanks so much in advance!,

Re: Dell screen turns black

Are you able to access the System Setup Menu (F2 at the Dell logo)?

Try removing the memory and testing one module at a time.

Remove the hard drive and attempt to boot? Did you receive error message.

Hi Makinu,

Yes i can press the F2 button, and it will show me this long list..could u guide me, what to choose and do next? Sorry Im not really tech person and and have no idea about computer stuff.

I did try to take off the hard drive, put it back it and reboot the computer, but it still went back to the black screen.

Re: Dell screen turns black

While in the System Setup Menu check to see if the hard drive is listed.

Press F12 at the Dell logo and run the diagnostics.

Re: Dell screen turns black

Try connecting a monitor to the laptop to see if the screen still turns black.

The Dell CD cannot be downloaded from the Dell Support site.

It is possible that you didn't receive any disc with the laptop as there is most likely a Recovery Partition.

Did you attempt any of the other troubleshooting tips from the link I posted earlier?
