hi there, just got myself an old inspiron 7500 that had seen better days, and thought i'd have a tinker with it,found that the screen was cracked all down the left side and unable to display anything,so i got a new screen for it,got instructions from the dell website, and changed screens, powered up, eh voila,nothing... i know for sure that it was working before, but i'm stumped as to what it could be,is there anything i've missed because there was only two cables to plug in to the screen itself, any ideas? thanks

I believe the cables fit and you were able to plug the inverter and the video cables well. Is the backlight lit? When you said 'nothing' you mean not even a blinking cursor? Have you checked if it was working before you put it in (it is possible you got a dead screen)? Also are you sure only the old screen needs replacement (it is possible you have dead or dying inverter or video card)?

Have you tried with an external monitor?

hi there, thanks for replying.the original screen was broke so i plugged my pc monitor into it and it works,so i got a new screen and put it in and there was only two cables with plugs to refit, which i did, into their respective sockets, i expected it to work seeing as it was fairly easy swapping screens,so i've either bought a dead screen or the inverter has gone. what is an inverter and what does it do? .would an inverter give up the ghost just like that? it was a simple case of turn laptop off swap screens turn laptop on,,,

An inverter provides AC power to the LCD... more like a hundred to a thousand volts. If it is dead you have no backlight on the LCD. When you boot, you may see the computer POST or even your Desktop however they are very faint. Almost like looking thru a tinted window. Sometimes you need to view it at an angle or use a flashlight to see what's 'beyond'.

I have read an article on how to know if your inverter is working. I have not tried it yet but I think it is worth a try. http://www.fonerbooks.com/test.htm

Well it is either that or you bought a defective LCD. You may try of course buying a new or just a working inverter in eBay or something.

You may try this also.. http://www.techsupportforum.com/f108...en-350292.html
