Audio jack not working properly

Urgh...

I've this problem for quite a while. Ok, let me explain this to you as clearly as possible.

I have an Acer laptop. At first, everything worked fine, but I've had some trouble lately with my audio jack.

Right in front of my computers are three ''holes''.

One of them is for the headphones, one of them is for the microphone and I have no idea what the last hole is for.

My problem is with the headphone slot.

It stops working randomly.

Here's what I mean

One day I'll turn on my computer and the slot will work perfectly fine. I'll plug my speakers or some headphones and listen to music. But the thing is I have to leave my computer on at all cost because I never know what's going to happen if I reboot.

Most of the time, the jack just doesn't work.

If I don't plug anything, the laptop internal speakers work just fine. But if I plug something into the headphone slot: nothing! Nothing is coming out of the speakers or the headphones.

Here's what happens when the speakers aren't plugged:

And here's what happens when the speakers are plugged:

Even though the headphone slot is ''highlighted'' it makes no difference, still no sound coming from the speakers.

Now, as I said, this happens randomly, but most of the time it doesn't work.

I downloaded the latest Direct X and I believe I have the latest drivers as well.

What gives?
