Hi TSF

I wanted to post this in the WIN Vista/7 forum but this may be the proper place for it.

A couple of days ago my laptoop (ASUS f6ve) froze. I restarted and a blue screen displayed before I could write down the Error message it turned off. Now everytime I turn it on and try to run a program, open browser, move a file, load a document it will stop working. This happens after about 2-4 minutes. I receive a variety of error messages: (Not Responding) and the cursor thinking gif remaining active, The AV has said critical error program will not function, Windows errors on a range of files asking to run Chkdsk.. and blue screens. Importantly(I think), The HDD light blinks a steady pattern about a short blink every second

I have run System Restore, no effect.

I successfully booted into command prompt and copying all my information.

I have not recently upgraded hardware or loaded any new software.

I would really appreciate your advice in deciding on how to proceed, I am thinking of doing a factory restore, is there anything else I can do? I can get into command prompt.

Yours faithfully,
J.spite

My first instinct points to a faulty HDD. Start by making a bootable CD with Hirens boot or linux to check the drive for errors. If the machine still freezes in boot CD environment, remove the drive and boot CD again, if it persists this probably means the issue is in the board.

Good luck, L2D.

As above ^
Boot from and run from a Linux disc to bypass the Hdd.

Hi

Thank you for your assistance. I did what you said and there was nothing wrong with any hardware. The file system had it.

Cheers,
J.spite

For future reference please use ultimate boot cd as Hirens is not recommended due to EULA issues.

Didn't know that, sorry. I just mentioned it cuz i know it as reference for decades, I actually use linux tools. Unfortunately many don't feel comfortable running linux.. I'll avoid it in the future. Thanks for the heads up.
