Acer Aspire error message

Can someone help me with this error message:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.
No Bootable device - - insert boot disk and press any key

2nd question I was given this laptop because it would not go past the startup screen. I purchased a new hard drive and installed it. I now realize it has windows vista on the label, I don't have a vista disk. Am I able to install XP, or do I have to buy a vista program?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to get this laptop working.

Hello,

Check in BIOS and make sure HDD is recognized.

In the BIOS under Boot Options make sure it is correct and not set to network boot.

If you have a Win XP installation cd then you can install that but you may have to

do a bit of searching for the Drivers.

I think the error message is just tellng you there is no operating system installed. Look on the Acer support websiite to see if they offer the drivers . . some manufacturers do and some do not.

If you can borrow a OEM Vista DVD that matches the version on your sticker, you should be able to use it with your Product Key to install.. Otherwise, you might download Windows 7 and use it untill the retail versons come out
