System Recovery 2010 backup stuck at 5%

Windows SBS 2003
Symmantc System Recovery 2010 SP4

I have a continuing problem were the back using the above software is unable to proceed further than Creating Snapshot at 5%. I believe it is a problem with the BITS service, as when this service is disabled, the backup works every time.

I have done extensive research and event contacted Symantec about it and have been no help.

The backup will sit at 5% until the job is forcefully stop by killing the services.

Thanks,

Re: System Recovery 2010 backup stuck at 5%

have a look at this thread - Backup job hangs at snapshot processing | Symantec Connect Community it may help.

Backup exec is the worst backup software i have come across and i am saying this because we purchased it and i am now stuck with it for a while. Lets just say there are better products out there!

Just to put my 2 cents in on backupexec
yes i agree with Maz
We switched right after our service contract ended with Symantec and moved to Yosemite backup Unlimited Server licenses for under $ 2k and 24/7 support
works a lot better and higher compression rate as well

Re: System Recovery 2010 backup stuck at 5%

After a couple of nights of uninstalling various components and what not I have found a pattern.

When the service "Update Services" (which I know runs WSUS) is set to automatic, in a minute it switches the BITS service to automatic (default is manual) and then using vssadmin, I am unable to list the writers.

When Update Services is disabled and stopped, and BITS is set to manual, my backup works flawlessly.

There is a process or job being intiated in WSUS that is causing the BITS to be set to auto and run rogue causing VSS to be unusable by any other process.

I have tried explain that as best as I can I know this is a complex issue, but if anyone has any ideas for WSUS and whatnot, I would welcome any ideas.
