XP Freezing while screensaver is on

Hi, After my screensaver comes on and i try to move my mouse, the computer freezes. What i had was a virus that infected my cmd32 file.. I formated the computer and reinstalled windows xp.. (it needed it anyway).. now my computer freezes after the screensaver comes up. Could this still be a software issue even though i formated and did a clean install?? any help on this would be appreciated!! .. Thanks in advance..

My mom's computer had the same problem, because after about 20 minutes or so, the computer tried to go into standby mode. It never had a problem with standby until I formatted the drive and installed XP. Do you remember getting any errors during the installation?

You can also check your power management settings:

1. Right click on your desktop and choose Properties
2. Click the Screen Saver tab
3. Click the Power... button in the bottom right corner
4. Look near the bottom where it says "System standby"
5. If the drop-down box contains a value, change it to Never, then click OK. Go cook dinner, eat, cleanup, watch some TV, then come back to your computer. Is it stuck? If so, you have a different problem (obviously). :D

I didnt see any errors durring the install, I also set all the power down options to never and it still froze, i took off the screensaver setting, changed it to turn of monitor, and its still freezing. This thing is driving me nuts!! ..

See if you can figure out how long it takes to freeze without the screensaver.
Since it's a fresh install of windows, lets make sure nothing is running.

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type "msconfig"
Click the Startup tab
uncheck everything.
reboot.
