Hey,
I'm using a Compaq Presario S3200NX with Windows XP. The system will not boot up and I and getting differant issues each time I try. Sometimes the screen locks up on the BIOS menu page where it says press F1 for setup or F2 to continue, then the keyboard won't work for either choice, tried several keyboards. Sometimes when the computer is turned on it will beep a single beep and continue beeping about three seconds apart (single beep each time) and I can't find a matching beep code for this. Sometimes after sitting a while the computer will turn on and there is a blank black screen with a cursor blinking in the top left corner. I have installed a new hard drive but I still have the same problems, each time the computer is turned on one of these problems occur. Looking for advice or other options I can try to fix this.

check the beep code here
www.bioscentral.com

cmos reset
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
reinsert the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

hi, good advice posted, it is generally bios. Sometimes i have seen it that people have purchased a new CMOS battery and it has solved their problem. Maybe the batter is not working anymore, therefore it cannot hold bios settings and forgets it, therefore you always get the keyboard error hd etc.

I changed out the battery and reloaded the default bios commands and the computer work for a few hours. I turned it off and when I tried to turn it on the next day all it does is beep. One beep around every second and it just keeps beeping nothing else. Ready to give up, any other suggestion??

hi, have you tested your RAM, use a program called memtest
open pc try replacing memory from on slot to the other. Make sure everything is firmly pressed down, graphics card, ram, power connectors, data cables.

Try /updating the bios, go to your manufacturer and you should be able to download a copy.

Make sure that the all power supply cables are connected to motherboard and if possible access BIOS to check correct voltages. Remove heat sink if you can, there should be four screws or some have a clip which looks like a scren you turn it anti clock wise, then check PCU has anough thermal paste on it.
I has a similiar problem and that was to do with Power supply. Try switching on PC with only the base unit, do you still get erros, try then slowly adding devices on it, if you are using usb try using ps2 mouse and keyboard.

I am thinking it might be a device failure, it is hard to describe troubleshooint steps all the time, you sometimes have to be there.

I did my own searching seen as i was running out of ideas :(, it looks to be a problem with RAM, try purchasing some new ones, on the RAM it should say the TYPE like ddrpc3200. If you have two try putting in one at a time.

Sorry if i can't be more of help

Hi, i also checked compaq website they said something there about

take the batter out, the CMOS that is, make sure the cable is unplugged, then hold down the power button for 40 seconds.

Go to link above and make a post there or email them, if you still have problems, they are specialised and should give you a good solution, or what the problem might be.

here is also another place that will help you
