Question

HI! I would like to refresh my install of windows xp home edition. I remember years ago you could do that with w/95 w/98 1 and 2 but don't know about xp home. Can you refresh the current install to repair corrupt files without doing a conplete install all over again? If so, please help me in this matter. Some functionality of xp is giving problems and want to see if refreshing it will repair files and/or replace missing files back in If I remember right that what 95 and 98 would do. If there is a way to do it please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help and input on this matter :O)

Hi, yeah you can do a repair installation of Windows XP by booting your system using the XP disc. When you get to the setup screen where it says to set up windows now press enter - do so, select your xp installation and press r to repair.
This will rewrite all your windows files, keeping your programs and data intact.

What problems are you having.

Before running the repair install try run sfc (system file checker)

1.Insert Windows XP media into cd/dvd drive

2. Click Start > Run type cmd

3. At the cmd box type sfc /scannow

This should overwrite any corrupt system files.

If still want to try the repair install below is a good guide.
