I've installed windows xp professional 64bit edition on one of my older PC. The problem is that when I wanted to install service pack 2, I got an error message that it is for a different hardware platform! I turned the download and install updates and it seems to have downloaded the updates but it is not installing anything! Also it is showing 511 of RAM when in fact I have 2 GB of RAM. Will appreciate your help.
Right click My Computer/Properties. In the System Properties window at the bottom it will tell you how much RAM you have installed.
Your motherboard may only support 1GB of RAM.
When SP2 is done installing, run the Crucial System Scanner, this will tell you how much RAM your motherboard supports.
Boot into Bios (Setup) On the Main page, it will list the Drives and the amount of RAM recognized by the computer. Then go to Integrated Peripherals, look for Shared Memory under Video Card. You may be able to adjust it from here how much RAM is allotted for Video RAM.
Now check the condition of the RAM by running the MemTest linked in the bottom of Spunk's posts.
