Windows wont load! cd rom not working either!

When I start my computer I cant get passed the windows screen. It's tries to load and stps.

I tried booting into safe mode, but it stops again in the same place.

I tried to put my windows cd in to recover the console, but it goes to a black screen has me press any key, and once i do that it goes to the windows startup screen again. NOT the setup screen so that I can reinstall my windows.

I tried to change my boot sequence so that the CD rom would be 1st. This did nothing, I had the same problem. It's as if my cd rom isnt readint the disk at all. I can hear it , but nothing occurs, it's like the disk just stays in place.

I've never had this problem, when I went to bed my computer was finelast night, now it's just gone from bad to worse. My question is, what can I do? If my cd rom isnt working, is there a way I can hoook up my computer to another so I can boot my computer that way? Or can I buy a "stand alone" cd rom to hook up to my computer so the I use the disk?

The disk works, I tried it on my friends computer. I am at a loss as to what to do, I 'd appreciate any advice or help!

Thanks!

hello & welcome to TSF ,

this sound like a Bios issue

dose the system have a floppy disk ?

if not you can get an old one from a friend and a data ribbon/ cable and add it to the system / in most case it will get reconnized as long as the motherboard has a connection on it

if it does then get a Bios update & make a bootable floppy disk with the bios update or the original bios and flash the Bios

then try to use the disk

then get back to us

Mike,
Thankyou for your swift response. My system does have a floppy disk...i'm assuming you mean an A: drive?
You'llhave to forgive me as my knowlege of computer is limited:) I looked up what you said about adding a data cable/ribbon . This is what I am looking for, right?

http://freepctech.com/pc/001/installing_ide_devices.shtml

I take it that by looking at my comp, I should be able to determine which cable I should get, by the number of pins in the back, does it have to be a specific one? Can I just tell I a computer shop what I am looking for and they should be able to determine what I need?

What will putting this cable in do? Is there a slot marked for it? Is it possible it's the cable I have thats not working and therefore not recognizing my cd rom and hard drive?

Thanks again for all your help!

hello ,

yes this is telling me that your system is very badly infected with a virus or that the system is very badly corrupted

now the data ribbon i was talking about is the one that connects to the floppy drive / it is specific and will hook to the motherboard only one way so make sure you look to see if you are doing it right ( you can see the diff) + it will only hook to it in one place for it is a diff. size then the cables for the harddrive + the cd rom

now if you wanted to change the data cable to the cd rom you can / they are not know to go bad / but the can

i hope this helps

let me know

try a cmos reset
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
replace the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer
