I have a Toshiba laptop with windows XP .. The sound works great when I play something in windows media player. But youtube video or other flash video does not produce any sound. I have done the following things with no luck :

1. Checked Device Manager to make sure my Realtek AC97 Audio working properly .. Driver un-installed and re-installed
2. Services.msc shows windows audio service is enables/started
3. Other basic checks like sound not muted, re-installed flash player, rebooted the computer
3. Checked sound and audio device properties in control panel ; it shows "No Playback Device"

Can anyone help ?

Thanks

Although I have come across this problem, I did have a quick search on google for you.

A couple of sites suggest scanning your computer for Malware for any potential infections.
Secondly, I did find one blogger who mentions he fixed his issue with a registry fix.

Quote:
If you paranoid about downloads you can fix it manually, here’s how:
start regedt32 (Win+R, type “regedt32″), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 location and make sure you have wavemapper with value msacm32.drv
His site is here: http://sb2.info/flash-player-9-missing-sound-issue-solved/comment-page-1/

I Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestions .. I regularly use Spyware Doctor from PCTools .. So, I'm pretty safe in that area .. I also changed my registry to have wavemapper = msacm32.drv based on your suggestions .. Rebooted .. But the problem remains
