Hi all,

I seem to have an annoying problem with my PC

All my programs work fine but when I try to access Windows Explorer in any way, it just won't let me do it. I can't get into my documents, my computer or the control panel. Administrative Tools works fine though, as does running things like services.msc from the run window. I've tried to access through the command prompt (e.g. "start C:\.....") but that won't work. The thing is, when I try and open files from within programs or access the net, I don't have a problem!! I'm very confused Even if I try and open Explorer by right clicking on the start menu and then going to explore, it just thinks about it for a few seconds then does nothing. I've run virus scans, adaware scans, spybot S&D scans but nothing comes up. I've posted my HJT log at the end of this thread as well, but nothing looks out of place there either. There didn't seem to be any cause to this either - it just, sort of, happened!! I thought it might be some sort of software install, but I can't get into add/remove programs to retrace those steps. The last bit of software I installed was avi2dvd from http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.html but explorer worked fine for at least an hour after that.

Please can someone help because I just don't know what to do and its getting quite frustrating.

Thanks,

Edno

Thanks anyway!

I quickly looked through your log, I did not see anything jump out at me. You may still post a log in the security forum if you wish.

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.

for some reason my computer had uninstalled msxml3. Dunno how. Dunno why. Reinstalled that and everything works fine again.

Until the next time....

Thanks for your help though!
