Here is what I have.
gigabyte AM2 NF4-SLI M55SLI-S4 - mobo
Corsair 160 IDE HD
Sony DVD-r/CD R combo
Sony CDR cd rom
Hitachi 160 SATA HD

Here is the problem..
Went to format HD to install XP.. the Install stuck in a loop.. instead of getting the boot from cd and going to the actual installation of windows, It keeps going back the format and setup of XP.
Here is what all i have tried.

Changing boot order in Bios - no luck
changing HD's to try an install - no luck
alternate between my 2 cd-rom drives - no luck
Tried 2 diff. Winxp cds to install - no luck

Havent tried reseting my bios yet. what can I do to get windows xp to start the actual installation instead of going back to the blue screen to setup and format?

Did you respond to the "Press any key to boot from CD" after the format? . . You only need to do that the first time, after that, just let it go and it should continue

Well thats the problem... When it reboots..

It doesn't even bring up the windows option" press any key to boot from CD......"
It goes straight back to the Blue format and setup screen..
I get this on both of my Win XP CD's as well with me trying either CDrom drive and HD's
I just reset my CMOS and trying agian.

Did you ever get the "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt . . if so, did you delete all partitions then set up new ones, prior to formating?

after resetting the cmos, did you reset it up as it would be in the default state after the reset
check cd is set to first in the booting order

I had this looping problem. The solutions was simple once I understood what could be causing it.

I had used this particular hard drive for Linux. It seems that Linux had written something to the MBR on the disk. Formatting it did not good. All of the other ideas on the web did not good. Removing all partitions and/or erasing the disk totally worked perfectly. I guess that destroyed all of the information and finally allowed the XP installation to proceed.
