Question

While selecting MS updates, one optional d/l was for me to d/l Amyuni printer document converter (for PDFs). Hmm, my HP printer has been working fine and prints out PDFs.

The explanation implied that my printer driver wasn't working properly and that the Amyuni d/l would improve printing. I declined. To me, this particular "update" seemed like aa bit of hucksterism.

I googled Amayuni and it is "free" for 15 days, then it cost $70. I also saw that there were other pdf helper programs that could be had. Can anyone tell me if Amyuni is worth it? Why am I being told I have a problem with a functioning printer? Why is MS pushing one particular product?
Please advise. TIA
Respectfully, OneMug

Never seen an update like that. Are you sure you were on the legit MS site?

Partti...yes, I d/l 7 other updates at the time but declined the Anyuni one. Here's the description from the MS Update site.

"AMYUNI Technologies - Printers - Amyuni Document Converter 300
Windows Update recommends installing this update because the device on your computer to which this driver applies appears to not be working properly.

Download size: 1.8 MB , less than 1 minute
AMYUNI Technologies Printers software update released in September, 2008 Details..."

Could a MS Moderator please comment on this issue? Thanks.

P.S. Since I joined this forum, I have updated to SP3. Is there a way to change that in the "OS" window of my msgs?

Two unanswered items:

Why is MS putting the AMYUNI document converter on their update site?
How to change my OS: SP2 tag under my name, posts, etc., to SP3, which is what I have?
Anyone? TIA. OneMug

Amyuni is a PDF document printer/converter, in Devices and Printers do you have a option to Print to PDF document? Sometimes it can come bundled with other programs.

As for changing the SP2 under your user name, go to User CP (control panel) in the upper left corner and choose Edit User Details. Under Computer specs change what you want it to say.
As for the Amyuni printer, this is a printer driver that comes with Quick Books or Quicken, in case you need a PDF converter. Windows Update offers to update this driver. You can Hide the update if you want and choose to never show it again.
