USB 2.0 Issues Win XP SP2

please can someone help me I have been searching many forums this seems to be a widespread problem.

Devices will not connect at 2.0 and give the usual "this device could be connected at hi-speed" and then shows the available ports.

I have a Windows XP SP2 install on a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP. Spec here: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket A - GA-7VAXP Ultra (rev. 1.x)

It is USB 2.0 supported. USB 2.0 is enabled in the BIOS.

Now I have downloaded various USB drivers from VIA and installed but still no avail.

The motherboard has 6 possible USB ports. The USB cable I am using was off a newer machine which had USB 2.0 working.

My device manager shows as follows:

4 x USB Root HUB Driver: Microsoft 01/07/2001 5.1.2600.2180
3 x VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Hoster Controller: Microsoft 01/07/2001 5.1.2600.2180

1 x VIA USB enhanced host controller: VIA technologies

Now as above I have tried downloading teh USB 2.0 VIA driver from their website; after installing the drivers still remain as above. Now I have gone into update driver under teh VIA USB enhanced and forced it to install the 2.0 driver which relists it as VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller but after a reboot it just shows as "Device could not start Code 10" so I have to revert back to the old driver.

Strangely under Everest under Devices shows under the VIA USB Enhanced Controller USB 2.0 Root HUB but no devices will connect. If i connect a USB pen drive; under Everest it lists under VIA Rev 5 or Later USB Root HUB.

Appreciate this is a wide ranging problem; but I have tried alot of fixes. Appreciate any replies.

Thanks
