Yes you must download and install the chipset drivers for your motherboard as mentioned by Albert. These drivers will install IDE controller drivers for your HDD's also advanced settings DMA etc.....
So how can I undo the Chipset/drivers files once I installed ?
In case things don't turn out o.k. ?
Do I do a system restore or is there an uninstall drivers file for this installation ?
And is there anything I should setup in settings once I do the installation
or is everything all automatically detect ? IT install new bios too ?
So mainly this driver file(s) controls the hard drives in my computer ?
It works, but in my secondary HD. When I play mp4 file it freezes for about 1 min. before it starts playing, Could the problem be is that I don't have the correct drivers you reccommended to install ? However display files like document files and playing mp3 files work o.k. in secondary drive. Just mp4 having problem of freezing at beginning.
This is another problem. If it froze while opening every file then maybe it could be your HDD controller drivers (although it would be one of the last things I would look at).
Do you use the same program to open MP4 and MP3 files?
Do you use added/separate codecs (like ace mega codec pack)?
What happens if you open your MP4s in another program?
If you copy an MP4 to your other drive does it do the same?

Doesn't matter any mp4 will freeze when I click and drag into player program
and start after about 1 min. Mp3 can click and drag to program and will play right away.
If you're having problems with the J: drive, is that an external (USB) or internal drive? If USB, it will be exceptionally slower accessing the drive then an internal drive. By default DMA is usually set to DMA 5 on the Primary IDE Controller.
To check Go to Device Manager, expand the IDE/ATAPI controllers, right click the Primary IDE controller/Properties/Advanced Settings. Here you can change the Ultra DMA Mode settings
This is normal. With IDE/ATAPI the way it work is you have a controller that can handle two HDD per controller in a daisy chain configuration mater and slave.
This also for the DVD/CD drives two per controller. The Primary is for hard drives the secondary of Cd dvd roms.
Two HDD on on controller which is where the IDE cable plugs into the motherboard daisy chain configuration also a IDE cable in the DVD/CD rom controller (Secondary).
When you download the chipset driver it should unzip a file and put it in. C:\HP\Drivers\Chipset. If it didn't start the install process automatically after that, then browse to that folder and look for a Setup.exe file and double click it to start the install. If there isn't a setup file then right click the Unknown device in Device Manager/Update Driver and browse it to the Chipset folder to the .inf file.
Did you follow the instructions in the text file that were included in the driver install?
6. Click the + (plus) sign next to “Other devices” or "System devices".
7. Right-click on "SM Bus Controller" and then select Update Driver.
8. Click NEXT to install the software automatically
9. Click FINISHED to complete the installation
If that fails, Boot into Safe Mode and Right click the Unknown Device in Device Manager and Uninstall all of the IDE controllers. Now restart the computer in Normal Mode. It should load the proper driver automatically but if it asks for a driver browse it to the Chipset/chipset_sis_agp folder to the SIS.agp.inf file.
Primary Ide Channel
Primary Ide Channel
Secondary Ide Channel
Secondary Ide Channel
SIS PCI IDE Controller
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
I right click and left click uninstall for each one.
Each time it tells me to re-boot the computer for each item I uninstall, which I did.
After it detects hardware and install driver(s).
But it still say + unknown .

Firstly I do not think the IDE driver is your problem.
Then the driver I told you to download, although it says it is the chipset driver, it seems as if it is only the SIS AGP driver (and possibly does not include hdd controller drivers).
Try going to device manager and double click the "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" -> Go to the Details tab -> And tell us what the Hardware ID is in the form VEN_1234&DEV_5678&SUBSYS_98765432
Maybe we can find and download a driver directly from SIS.
Do you have a section in your Device Manager called "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"?
The reason I ask is because your devices are installed correctly and say they are working properly yet they are under "unknown devices"
Do you have enough free disk space on your drive j: ?
Have you run a chkdsk and perhaps a defrag on drive j: ?
Have you considered upgrading to SP3?
In device manager you can sort your devices by connection (View -> Devices by connection)
Once done go through the list of devices searching for your hard drives you will see it should be listed under one of the controllers (SIS or Standard) and then under Primary or Secondary IDE. I want to know which one drive J: it is under?
Sorry if some of these questions have been answered before.
I don't see any where it where says IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
I have about 95 gigs on j drive and 116 gigs on c drive.
I did check disk and defrag of both drives. No errors or problems occurred.
I tried to update to Windows xp sp3, but near the end as it was trying to
complete installation progress bar stopped and didn't go any further for a few hours. So I cancelled it and later restore it back to SP2.
Since it didn't completely install sp3, but won't load Windows XP after, properly.
It looks like this driver is for the SIS Processor to AGP Controller under System Devices. You can right click this to update that driver.
Can we have a screen shot further up the Device Manager to see if there is an IDE/ATA/ATAPI Controller listed?
Other then that, follow AlbertMC2's suggestions
Click on the + sign next to Standard Dual Channel PCI to IDE Controller. Also on the SIS PCI to IDE controller. You should see that your Primary and Secondary IDE controllers are installed and working correctly.
Boot into Setup (Bios) and go to PCI devices and see if there is anything unusual there. (ex) an extra controller etc that could be disabled.
Try this driver - Go to this website: SiS - Welcom to Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation. Agree to the Terms and conditions
Choose Windows XP
Select SATA and RAID
Select SATA and RAID again
Click GO
Choose location to download -> Download Now
Enter Verification Code -> Download Now
Once downloaded, unzip and run Setup
Just try it
I determined the type from your Device Hardware ID that was given in your previous post.
If it is the wrong one then it won't work (won't match any of your hardware) just like the previous downloaded driver.
As an after thought you may want to go to the above mentioned web site again then: Agree to the Terms and conditions
Choose Windows XP
Select IDE Driver
Select IDE Driver again
Click GO
Choose location to download -> Download Now
Enter Verification Code -> Download Now
Once downloaded, unzip and run Setup
Do you have anything like Daemon Tools / Alcohol 120 installed? (Any CD/DVD emulator program)
If so uninstall it through Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
Not that I am aware of.
I think I am just going to leave it as is, because my computer is working fine at the moment apart from the fact saying unknown in device manager.
Thanks.
