in trying to determine why my daughter's computer is running so slow, i went to the task manager..."system idle process" in processes is using from 64% to 89% of the cpu resource. what i'm wondering is if there is a work-around for this. any and all help gratefully appreciated.

thank you! i was thinking the opposite...i'll try a defrag and see what happens...i'm also running into a situation where with google chrome every tab you open opens a new instance of google chrome...but that's a subject for a different forum :)

thanks for getting me on the right track!

If you mean each tab in Chrome starts a new chrome.exe process, that's expected behavior. Internet Explorer does much the same thing, and it's for tab isolation and crash resiliency.
