svchost.exe causing 100% cpu usage windows xp

This is a discussion on svchost.exe causing 100% cpu usage windows xp within the Windows XP Support forums, part of the Tech Support Forum category. this is probably an old problem but how can i get rid of the virus that is disguised as svchost.exe

this is probably an old problem but how can i get rid of the virus that is disguised as svchost.exe which causes 90 - 100% cpu usage when I connect to the internet. Ive tried my norton with all the updates but it does not recognize it. please help.

It's not necessarily a virus, the genuine ms svchost process has had problems in the past (and sometimes still has). Make sure you've got SP2 and all the latest updates from microsft updates before you post a log.

Btw, I meant Windows update, not microsoft update. Updating Office won't solve your problem... (I wasn't that awake either)

my updates are all up to date along with my virus protection, I have tried a full system scan but it cannot identify anything, also my pc works fine offline but soon as I connect to the internet svchost.exe uses 90% of my cpu

I have the same problem with svchost.exe ID 1480that contains the folowing processes: DcomLaunc and TermService
I've tried to disable auto updates - didn't help
I've tried installing updates:
WindowsXP-KB927891-v3-x86-ENU
windowsupdateagent30-x86 - didn't help

I have Windows XP Professional SP2.


Is there anyone who could help me to repair this problem? Cann't find any solution on the internet :(
