Please help. My laptop has XP pro installed. I believe with SP2 (not sure how to check at this point?)

I get a stop message blue screen immediately after the windows startup and can't get past this screen.

I tried booting from Windows XP disc and tried to install XP. After beginning the install, I get a message that say that the harddrive is not found and that setup is exiting.

Any suggestions?

The bad news is that you have limited options with these symptoms. The good news is that you only have a few options, lol.

Your HD might be bad. Might be good and/or repairable.

Download and burn to bootable CD the diagnostic utilities for the manufacturer of your HD. Boot to this disk, and let the software tell you if the HD is good or not.

Other possiblities:

Does the HD get reported in BIOS ? Did you change the jumper/pin configuration or remove any hardware ?

Could be a bad Power Supply, and it might have killed the HD and even the motherboard. Meaning that while unlikely, things can be a little bad, or REALLY bad. Verify the HD is good or not first.
