[SOLVED] Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
I was having trouble with my IBM Thinkpad T41 2373 so I factory reset it and set everything up. When it came to connecting to the internet I found that in device manager I was missing in my "Other Devices" section my Ethernet, Multimedia Audio, Network and Video Controller drivers as well as my PCI Modem driver. I tried and tried to find information about what I'd need and looked around trying various driver software I found but none worked. I'm currently running Win XP Pro 2002 Service Pack 3. If anyone knows what drivers I need and more importantly where I can get them please let me know. If you need more information to help me just ask and I'll try my best to get that info. Thanks in advance for your interest in helping me!

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
Hi I cannot do it that way what I can tell you is that there are a huge amount of machines under that banner and the 3 other numbers narrow down the field to one specific machine which makes your chances of getting the correct driver for your specific machine much better or there is a auto detect which should do it for you Lenovo Support - How do I use "My Download List" (US)

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
Joeten, Thank for you help so far. How would I find out these extra three numbers? Also, as I have no internet on the laptop I'm trying to fix I can't run the auto detect, unfortunatly.

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
I would start with installing the Chipset driver first . . then the network adaptor drivers . . after that you can go online to get the rest.

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
There are several ways to easily find this information as it is written into the BIOS on the system board.
1) Boot to BIOS (press F1 on startup) and the model type and serial number will be listed.
2) You can also check by using the ThinkVantage Toolbox via pressing the ThinkVantage button beside your power button. From there you should be able to see your Product Number, Serial Number and BIOS version since Toolbox reads from the system BIOS info.
3) Another way is to run an elevated command prompt, and enter the command "wmic bios get serialnumber" (without the quotations)

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
Joeten, I did as you said. "BIOS Version 3.05a (1RETC6WW)" "BIOS Date 2004-05-14" "Embedded Controller Version 3.01a"
Rich, I got the Chipset, Modem and Ethernet drivers. I ran the .exe's on the laptop and nothing changed :S

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
Joeten, I've found the 3 digits you needed, do you think you could use them to try and find the drivers? I've just been looking but I still haven't found anymore

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
On an Internet computer download the drivers and save them to a USB Flash Drive. Bring the flash drive over to the ThinkPad, open the flash , and double click the downloaded drivers to install. They will Unzip to a location on the C: drive, something like C:\Drivers, or C:\Lenovo (take note of where they unzip to) After unzipping, the driver should install. If not, you can right click the yellow flag for that device in the Device Manager, choose Update Driver and browse it to the Unzipped Location to the .inf file to install the driver. Once you have the Chipset and Ethernet installed, you can use the Thinkpad to get the rest of the drivers.
Download the:
Chipset driver: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub...s/oss206ww.exe
Intel Pro/1000 LAN (Ethernet) adapter:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub...s/7ira09ww.exe

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
Spunk, thanks for your help too. I'm just about to do the chipset one but I don't know which to install it for. In the SS above I showed the devices I'm missing the drivers for "Ethernet Controller" "Multimedia Audio Controller" "Network Controller" "PCI Modem" "Unknown Device" "Video Controller". Which of those do I install the chipset driver to?

Re: Win XP Drivers missing for Ethernet Controller + More
You do not install a driver to any particular device. You just download the driver, save it to a flash drive, put the flash drive in the troubled computer and double click it to install it. It will unziip (take note of where) and it should start the install. Or it will say this is the wrong driver for your hardware. After it installs, go back to the Device Manager and the yellow flag for Unknown Device should disappear. Then do the Intel LAN driver and the Network Adapter drivers flags should disappear.
