[SOLVED] VGN-N325E Drivers won't work after downgrade to XP

I have a VGN - N325E and i can't find the lan driver, and my device mgr has 2 ethernet controllers, pci device, 2 video controllers and a mass storage controller showing the yellow exclamation.

i did a bit of a search and i have the Mobile Intel 943GML Express chipset, but when i went to the intel site and i only found the graphics driver.

ADDITIONALLY I have a vaio vgn -n130g i need to do a reinstall on and i'm wondering if i'll have the same issue with that one. the OEM is/was XP Media Center, but it's so slow because of all the crap that's on it (bought from office depot).

After i install i get a message that says:

This computer seems to have an Intel i945GM/PM "Calistoga" motherboard chipset. the current version of everest you are running does not fully support your system.

it then recommends that i run a hardware report so i clicked yes and the report looks like this:

The errors in my device manager are black exclamation points (!) on a yellow field. They are all under the heading, "Other Devices" and they are:

Please download the chipset driver from this link:

It is the second one on the list.

Then download the Video Driver from this link:

There are 2 on ths list. The exe. file should be easier for you to install.

Then the Realtek HD audio Driver at this link:

Install all the drivers in order then check the device manager and post the errors left.
I will be back for the other drivers shortly. I am bouncing between two of you that are having similar issues.

Hi Bill -

I installed the drivers - except for the realtek driver. That is a Vista package and when i tried to install it i get an error that says:

no driver was supported in this driver package

after installing the other two drivers i still only have the 1394 net adapter (no wireless) and the following exclamation points:

OK, after installing the other proper drivers i still only have the following exclamation points:

Modem device on High Definition Audio Bus

the interesting thing is that under the sound, video and game controller heading, i have the realtek high def audio showing. I also have sound now, so it is working! i wonder why i have that conflict?

found the reason i was getting the conflict for the high def bus - i had to install (first i had to find the SOB) the drivers for the modem.

Ya, that was the next step. For some odd reason the HD sound goes with the HD modem. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Can you tell me what is left in the device manager? I know you still do not have wireless, but is the hardwire ethernet working?

i just found the lan driver at the marvell site, so now i have wired connectivity. now my conflicts are:

ethernet controller
mass storage controller

getting close!

through my searching today i have found that sony UK and sony asia support the downgrade to XP, and provide driver packages. I haven't been able to find the same thing on the us support site, and i can't find my model on the aformentioned pages. it seems odd that sony would support the downgrade in asia and europe, but not here.

Good, we are almost done (I hope). We still have to find the wireless and the Mass storage device. Ya, this is a Bill Gates thing along with the Big manufatures. There are alot of people that would have blowin this thread off, but I like a challenge (you must to). Now down to business. I believe the Mass Storage device is your Card reader. The wireless connection is an Atheros IEEE network. Give me a little more time to see if I can find a link to these. I appreciate your patients. I am bouncing around like a rubber ball on similar issues as yours.

eureka! i found the wireless driver! you were right, it is atheros, i found it here:

scroll to the very bottom of the page, it is the last driver on the page, the Atheros Wireless LAN Driver.

now all i have to do is figure out the mass storage device - but the wireless driver was/ is the holy grail of this project!

YOUR THE MAN, you found it!!! I am hoping you SAVED these drivers to disk. As far as the Mass Storage device is a (I Believe) a Texas Instrument Memory Stick Pro. I did find a TI model for a VGN-F it may work for yours. I think this is an updated version. It maybe worth the shot. Here is a link:

Go to the original drivers tab and look for the TI card reader (NOT THE PATCH). Click see more and check other models. It does not have your exactly, but it does list other VGNN models. I could be wrong about the card reader as being the mass Storage device (You may want to see if it is working first).
