[SOLVED] System Not Booting
Hi,
My son's XP SP3 system has got to the stage where it will not boot.
When the start button is pressed, all the fans spin, the MB LEDs light as does the HDD access LED. It has had a troubled time for a while now and has shown the following messages on BSODs just today:
Page Fault In Nonpaged Areas STOP 0x00000050
Bad Pool Caller STOP 0x000000C2
IRQL Not Less or Equal STOP 0x000000A
We had got to the stage where we were going to re install XP anyway but now we can't even do that.
I have tried removing the Bios Battery and clearing the Bios but that didn't help either.
PSU is Corsair TX 750
MB is Gigabyte GA EP31DS3L
GPU is Nvidia N240GT
4GB RAM
Dual Core CPU (not sure of model)
We have replaced the Thermal Paste on the CPU.
The system is about 2 years old
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Rob.

Re: System Not Booting
Hi ;
Can you unplug all cables from computer and wait for green light is off on the PSU.
Wait like 20 sec. Then plug all cable then turn on
Also follow below link please.
You receive a "Stop 0x0000000A" error message in Windows XP

Re: System Not Booting
Sounds like the hard drive may be on the fritz. Find who manufactures your hard drive and download the bootable diagnostic tool from their website. Burn it to disk and boot off the disk and run the tests.

Thanks for the reply.
Can't try this one because the system won't boot.

Re: System Not Booting
Hi,
Tried that, all I got was the same 'rattly' noise (only way to describe the sound) from the HDD. Doesn't sound right to me.

Re: System Not Booting
Download ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature, boot off of the newly created CD and run the Short and Extended tests on the drive.

Re: System Not Booting
Are you posting from another computer or a smart phone? You would download the files to another computer with internet access, and a CD burner. Burn the disc and boot off of the CD on the troubled computer.

Re: System Not Booting
I am posting from my W7 system. I could burn the CD ok, but the troubled system won't boot. All I get is a black screen, I can't change the first boot from HDD to ROM.

Re: System Not Booting
Make sure you plugged everything back in correctly. Are the lights and fans spinning? Do you get the computer Logo or DOS like screen (POST) with the option to enter Setup (Bios)? If so, you can enter the Bios to set CD rom as first boot device. If not, do you hear a single beep (POST) right after boot up? If not, you need to replace the PSU. If fans spin, Do you have a separate video card, or onboard video? If Video card remove the card and use the onboard Video.

Re: System Not Booting
Everything is plugged in ok. As I said in the first post, LED's and fans are going. There is no POST, no MB Screen, the display is black.
Video card is separate but there is on board graphics, unfortunately I don't have a display with VGA available right now.
I suspect the HDD because of the clunking it is making. If the PSU was crook surly there would be no lights a flashing and fans a spinning?

I would check your motherboard for bad caps.

Re: System Not Booting
Good idea, checked and all ok though.
Aside from replacing the PSU with a known good one, is there a reliable way to prove that the PSU is the problem. I'm starting to lean towards the PSU as the culprit because of the varied symptoms the system was showing and the fact that it now won't post.
