This morning we had a power outage and when I turned my computer back on, it would not boot. I tried several times to hard boot, with no luck. Then I tried safe mode. Ran an antivirus scan and it showed malware and several infections which it cleaned. The computer still would not boot normally. I then ran chkdsk, still would not boot normally. I have ran malware bytes, registry repair and the registry defrag program as well as done a disk clean up. It still will not boot in normal mode.
Since my last problems that you helped me with, I have upgraded to a broadband internet connection and have a home network. The 2 other computers on the network are fine.
A week ago, I had purchased Avast internet security and had problems immediately. It would not allow me to connect to the internet. That was uninstalled and I went back to the free Avast antivirus, Zone alarm and Spyware blaster. I was very unhappy with Avast customer service and support iYogi and decided I did not want Avast on my computer at all. I have since downloaded PC tools free antivirus. Once I have my computer operational again, I am open to suggestions.
Fortunately, I did not change anything on the other 2 computers. Just mine.
Running Windows XP 3 .
Thank you.

Re: computer will not boot except in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
I downloaded and ran speccy. It states that it cannot initialize SPC dll under CPU, RAM, Motherboard, Graphics, Hard Drives.
By the way, system restore was inaffective.
I am sorry - can you elaborate on that? You have gone way beyond my tech abilities. As for as borrowing something - I live in a small rural area and there are not really any techie types around.
To follow up on my last post - I take it you are referring to the power supply. My son has one he took out of a computer that had a dead motherboard. I don't know what wattage it is, or if it will fit. I will have him help me see if it can be installed Monday night. Will let you know what happens. Thank you very much.
The computer starts and goes all the way to the desktop and then stops. It does not load any icons, or task bar, just the picture on my desktop. It seems to be ok in safe mode and safe with networking mode.
Thank you.
The power supply I have here will not fit. I will need to purchase one. I would like to know for sure that the power supply is the problem.
Re: computer will not boot except in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
In my opinion, I would not replace the power supply.
If you can boot into Safe Mode and see your desktop icons etc, your problem is more likely related to a piece of software or driver installed in Windows. Boot into Safe Mode, click your Start button and go to Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools>>System Restore. See if you have a recent Restore Point which you can go back to that is just before the date the problem started.
Re: computer will not boot except in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
Boot into Windows normally. Once the computer has booted up as much as it can, press Control+ALT+DELETE. When Task Manager opens up, click File, then New Task Run and type explorer.exe. See if your desktop loads up correctly.
After that, in either Safe Mode or normal Windows, click the Start button, type CMD in the Run box and press enter. At the command prompt, type SFC /Scannow and press enter. Let the system file checker run. It may prompt you to insert your Windows XP cd at some point.
Re: computer will not boot except in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
1. Ran Avast cleaner (again).
2. When I started the computer normally and pressed CONTROL, ALT, DELETE nothing happened.
3. I went on and ran the SFC/ Scannow.
The result:
Windows file protection could not initiate a scan of protected system files,
The specific error code is 0x000006ba [The RPC server is unavailable.]
I will be away for a couple of hours now. Will check back later.
Thank you again.

Re: computer will not boot except in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
Boot into Safe Mode, go to Control Panel and create a new User. Make sure it's an Administrator. See if you can boot into that account under normal Windows.
Go to this page and see if you can run steps 1 through 4 in Safe Mode. I'll see if I can look at the output files and find something.
I created a new user / admin. Still can not boot normally. In fact then could not get off page showing welcome and the new user name.
Working on the other step.
Went to the page you designated - says it is for Vista and Windows 7. I am in XP3.
Here is the file you requested.
On the last start up, I failed to hit the F8 quickly enough, at the Welcome page, I chose my old user name and it opened to the desk top and loaded all the icons and the system tray, but nothing would work or open.
When I restarted the computer, I chose the new user and it opened a new desktop page and stayed on loading the settings for "Windows desktop update".
the next restart, I chose the old user and was back to my original place, old desktop, no icons.
Re: computer will not boot except in safe mode or safe mode with networking.
Lady, I'll see if I can give you something to try tomorrow.
