[SOLVED] Black Screen on start up

Hello, I am trying to help a family member of mine fix her computer. The problem is that when she attempts to boot the computer, the screen is entirely black. No cursor or splash screen. Pressing buttons on the key board or clicking has no effect either, and the CD-ROM won't open. I really want to know what is causing this and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Black Screen on start up

Can you get into Setup (Bios)? Pressing F2, Del etc? If not, then there is serious error on the motherboard. Try removi9ng all hardware (HDD, CD, Floppy, expansion cards etc) Remove all external devices other then keyboard and mouse. everything except one stick of RAM and see if it boots that way (switch the RAM around) . If not it's either the motherboard or processor. You might try changing out the Power Supply Unit (PSU)
