sfc /scannow missing cd.

Hello

I'm running Win XP Home SP3, and recently tried to run the sfc /scannow command, the utility asked me for my original installation CD (my disc also includes SP2), which I inserted, but it that was the wrong CD (it is the correct disc, I used it to install windows)

So then I slipstreamed my XP installation disc with SP3 using this guide, and I successfully created a SP3 installation disc. Now the sfc /scannow is giving me the same error as before,
"Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache.
Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM now."

What can I do to fix this?

Re: sfc /scannow missing cd.

Well okay first slipstreaming is occasionally prone to failure, and it might be worth re-doing the slipstream again. Also, using nLite is a whole lot easier than Paul Therott's method. That was how I did my first one; nLite is a LOT easier.XP might be looking at the slipstreamed disk's label. Did you name it the same label as the original XP Home disk ?If you used the original data disk and simply slipstreamed SP3 into it, it should work. The label is the only thing that would be different. Also, I'd recommend getting a good ISO image of your original disk and then archiving that disk. Make a copy from the ISO and let that one get all scratched-up, etc....

Re: sfc /scannow missing cd.

Ok i'll try using nLite, and no I dont believe the volume label was the same as the original disc.. As for the ISO image, yeah that sounds like a good idea.

Re: sfc /scannow missing cd.

Click Start | Run (or press WinKey+R), type regedit, press Enter
Navigate to here:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Make sure the value for SourcePath shows just the CD/DVD ROM drive letter

Re: sfc /scannow missing cd.

Outcaste,
that SourcePath value was 4TMP_REGVALSOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SetupSourcePath, changing it to my drive letter did nothing.

Also, I used nLite to attempt a sp3 slipstream disc, I believe I made the correct disc, but im still getting the same error as before.

Re: sfc /scannow missing cd.

There is a 2nd vvalue at that location,
ServicePackSourcePath.
It should be set to here:
c:\windows\ServicePackFiles
There should be an i386 folder in that location, c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386
(adduming Windows is installed on C: of course)

You can try changing that value to the CD/DVD drive letter as well if you've slipstreamed SP3 into the CD.
