Hi Guys

I'm trying to restore my laptop to factory condition and i'm not geting anywhere fast.

I can do it no probs on my desktop, just hit F8 at start-up and select recovery partition but on my laptop it dose not give me that option.

The laptop is running xp home with media edition 2005.

Any help would be great

Cheers

Craig

Hi craig-s-147 !

What's the laptop's make and model ? It's not always F8 that you have to press and there's not always a recovery partition. Did you get any install or recovery disks with the laptop ?

There's probably some HP program that's already installed that will allow you to create the recovery disks, try searching for it. I'll search HP's website for more info and will get back to you.

For my uncles HP the HP recovery program was somewhere in the START -> Programs menu. I can't recall exactly the name of it but that's where we went to get it started. No disks were needed.

good luck

Check those links :
Repairing a Corrupted Installation Using HP Recovery Manager
Using HP Recovery Manager

Seems it's F11 that you have to press at startup.

I would still create the recovery disks 'cause if one day you accidentally wipe your recovery partition (or your hard drive fails) they will be your last and only chance.
