I purchased this computer from Dell 2 years ago and just recovered from a catastrophic hard drive failure. I had Norton Anti-Virus 2005 with the machine and have since renewed.

When I used my backups that I had, Norton was no longer there. How do I get the product key to re-install NAV 2005?

The best way would be to contact Symantec and let them know what happened. They should have no problem giving you your key. I'm not a fan of Norton, as it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. There are several good free antivirus programs out there, that do a much better job. AVG and Avast come to mind. If your subscription is going to run out soon, I would say forget about it, and install one of the free ones I mentioned. If your subscription is just beginning, I would contact Symantec for the key.

Much better off. I have never seen a more resource hungry, controlling, bloated anti-virus program like Norton.

Hello Bill, Welcome to TSF! :4-wave:

To ensure that all the remnants of your Norton™ 2005 are removed from your computer, you will need to download and use their 'removal tool'.

Download the Norton™ Removal Tool , and run it on the computer. (Click the coloured Link).

I also agree with the advice that gistek has given you regarding AVG™; I have been using their Internet Security Suite for over 5 years now and cannot fault it.
AVG™ is not resource hungry like Norton™ either.

Kind Regards,

Well, yea, and in my opinion, McAfee is just as bad.
