Need help restoring factory settings to Dell xps 600

Hello. I've had a lot of recent issues with my system, which was all mentioned in a previous post on TSF. I've come to the point where I just want to completely restore it back to the original factory settings.

I've tried many things, but you can only go back a few months or to a date you saved as a restore point. Unfortunately, I can't even do that anymore since the start of this BS. I am not looking for possible fixes for all the issues that brought me to this conclusion. An original factory setting restore must be done.

I have a Dell XPS 600 with Microsoft XP as part of the included software, when I purchased it new from Dell.

I can't ask Dell for help, as recommendations from one of their techs caused my computer to pretty much crash. Because my warranty is expired, they want me to now pay for their help (even though their tech was responsible) to fix it. I refuse. Any advice, (besides buy a Mac; as I am starting to take a serious look into their products due to my continuing problems), is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Hello & thank you for your time & response; Receng56. I tried it, but it didn't work. I had posted something last week regarding error codes & I just sent this reply to someone. I think it will give you a better understanding of my dilemma.

I hope all is well there in the UK. I really need to visit London some day. Thank you again.

my other reply as follows:

I have the time. I learned a lot in the last few days about this computer. When it was working good, it was very good & I want to really get into it.

I've done a complete system restore, to the factory settings, a few times before on my old HP. I know that It takes time & you'll need all the reinstall discs. With HP, the discs were numbered; in order of what to download next. They made it nice & easy.

Dell doesn't make things easy. They'de lose too much money. The problem is, unlike my HP (where I had the option of going into system tools & choosing system restore to original factory settings), this computer doesn't offer that. It only lets you go back a few months. On my other post, I was told to hit (alt - F11) while the system is booting. Unfortunately, I am getting that black screen with white text stating "Floppy diskette seek error - Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run set-up utility. That only gives me 2 options. If I hit F2, there is a maintenance option which I could choose to do the system restore I want, but when it seems to start running, it stops when it gets to the floppy diskette seek error notice & It doesn't let me continue.

Also, I have been using the Firefox, but when I was on the phone with Microsoft, they said I needed to open up with IE for them to help. When they got off the phone with me, that is when I started getting the IE pop-up asking if I wanted to compress the files. I've been using Firefox since that call. I am no computer wiz. I am very skeptical when this thing asks me if I want to do something, after everything that's been going on with it.

Sorry for the book, just trying to give as much info as possible. Thanks again.

You should check out the solution I gave out on your old thread, see if it works, if not, I'll try to give helpful advice here if I find something out OK? :)
