It seems like a very simple problem but it's driving me mad. I go to Properties, I Customise, hiding all unwanted icons, the Lock the Taskbar. It works for a very short while, then they're all back again - this has been going on for days now. Anyone got any ideas?

You don't lock the taskbar that way. Should be able to right click the taskbar then click lock it.

Thanks for trying, but that quick route - right click on bar, click Lock - doesn't work which is why I go into Properties and Lock it there. Any other thoughts?

Well try this Kelley's corner fix. They usually work more than not.

Locking the taskbar has nothing to do with hiding Notification Icons.

Is the setting for each Icon changing from Always Hide to one of the other two settings?
Is the Hide Inactive Icons box getting unchecked?
Are you running any kind of a cleaning tool, like CCleaner, WindowWasher, or worst of all a registry cleaner?
