Lost pictures

Had a hiccup after burning pictures to CD. For some reason the majority of pictures on file are no longer able to be viewed. Error message is : Cannot display "image name" because a suitable graphics viewer cannot be found".

Not all pictures have disappeared but most of them have - although their file names and folders remain. I was viewing them via ' Quicktime picture viewer'.

Any help for a computer bumbler would be appreciated.

NB: First CD burnt pictures came through fine - 2nd CD burnt - pictures unable to be displayed with same message as above.

Cheers

Lost Pictures

Thanks for the reply Geekgirl.

Opening the files/folders using Quciktime picture viewer gives me the same message. In quicktime it tells me there is no preview available. Even though the files are listed they appear to be empty - ie - no bytes etc. As said earlier - they still list the names of the files and the individual photos.

Appears to me they have disappeared from the system.

From the error message it looks like either the image files are not associated with a graphics viewer or you need to reinstall Quick Time.

Also, check the CD files in explorer. Have they got their correct extension? (jpg, bmp, png...) If not, you can copy them back to your hard drive, do a batch-conversion in IrfanView (only takes a few seconds) to give them a jpg extension, then burn them to CD.

I once burnt some photos to CD using my camera's software which somehow removed the file extensions of all the pics making them unviewable. So if that sounds similar to your problem, IrfanView might help.

EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed your last post. If the files are all 0 bytes then they've not been copied to CD properly. You might have lost them unless anyone knows of a way to recover them.
