Long Boot and Shutdown times

I'm running a fresh install of Windows XP SP 1 on this system:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
2 GB (4x 512 MB) Corsair XMS TwinX PC3200
2x 256 MB Leadtek 6800 GT @ 390/1075
250 GB WD SATA HDD 7000 RPM 8 MB Cache
Chaintech AV-710 8.1
Rosewill 500W PSU

After the installation of basic drivers motherboard, sound and video. My reboot time seemed to skyrocket. I ran TuneXP and had it set for ultra fast shutdown and fast startup, but my times are still way longer than my older rig. Startup takes anywhere from 1-3 minutes and shutdowns usually take 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes. On my old computer, I can shutdown and startup within seconds.

Another issue, my power button now does a hard shutdown after I reinstalled Windows. In the "Power Options" setting in the control panel, I do not have an option to change the button to hibernate, etc. Although, after I shutdown I do get the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" message, a la Windows 98.

I'm getting really frustrated because my top-end machine is having stability issues and it loads slower than my 2 year old rig. I haven't tested another hard drive yet, but it's the next thing I'm going to try.

Check your bios for the power button problem.

As far as your booting issue. Make sure you have your boot partition (where your os is located) as first in the boot sequence. And enable quick boot (if available, should be on the bios somewhere)

I would definetly NOT consider those stability issues. You have very minor issues that you just need to work out. You CAN NOT expect the better start up/shutdown just because you have a better rig. There's more things than speed that effect how the startup/shutdown process works.

Hope this helps
