Ok i have recently had problems with zone alaram, i uninstalled it and it left files behind on my computer that blocked nearley everything...but i deleted them and the internet appeard to be working find but now when i start my computer my browsers only works for about 5 minutes(mozilla IE7 SBC browser)i dont recieve any error other than some htttp protocal error type thing...but all my browsers are set to auto detect internet...its just my browsers too i can still run aol instant messenger, ventrilo, and other 3rd party things that need the internet..and i cant think of what is doing this
Have you tried uninstalling any remaining zone alarm things with the microsoft utility msicuu2.exe its fantastic for things not properly uninstalled. Can you ping the websites? Checked that your connection isn't using a proxy like 127.0.0.1?
To check if you're using a proxy, Go into your LAN settings in internet options, then the connections tab, in control panel. If you are you might want to note all the details then try without, if it doesn't help, put them back.
Of course this shouldn't affect Mozilla which uses its own connection settings but its always worth a try I guess!
i used the clean up tool and cleared everything out...and pinged google when the browsers stoppped working and they were pinging really good but the browsers still didnt work...when i start up my comptuer im am already gettnig limited connectivity and about 10min in it craps out
I'd recommend you try running the anti-spyware programs ewido and spybot if there's some way to get them onto your PC.
You could always try running a text based browser like Lynx and see if that works.
You could find something is blocking your port 80. Try using aports to see whats using what ports, then stop that process.
