Microsoft Download Notifications is offering a 'new' Windows Media Player 11 for XP w/sp2. I have searched the Internet and Microsoft's FAQs for WMP11 and cannot find an answer to this question:
Is it necessary to uninstall a currently installed version of WMP before installing this 'new' WMP11?
Windows Media Player is a part of the Windows operating system and cannot be removed entirely. In the event of problems you always have the option to "Roll back" to the previous version
I understand that WMP cannot be removed entirely (at least not in Vista). And I understand there are rollback options. I suppose I should have phrased my question this way:
Should this 'new' WMP11 be installed over an existing version?
WMP11 updates from verion 10 so you don't have to uninstall anything just run the setup file and it will do the rest. And as Dunedin said there is the roll back if things get messed up. And the answer is yes, it can.
