Download Tweak UI:

Open it > Click on Repair (bottom one on the left) > Make sure Rebuild Icons is selected and click on Repair Now

I just thought of maybe restoring my windows since i downloaded a couple of programs and they might have a virus or sumthign that my pc cant find thought they are iso files of CDs and its basicly not posible to get viruses from there.

But thanks im working on ur method now.

OKay, disappearing icons from the desktop aren't that much of a problem (a good start is what Tosh9i wrote), but what you wrote afterwards confuses me a bit, so I want to verify: Are you saying that when you open a folder (no matter if it's on the desktop, or in Windows Explorer on the hard disk) you don't see anything in that folder, not even lines of text with the document / program names?

 

I see the same thing as on desktop.. just the file names without the icon pictures.. i can click em its all working but theres no pictures.

I just went to safe mode to wounder arround a bit and then when I came back to normal mode it all went back to normal, but still id like to know how it happened and what the causes are of that since it might come back again.

 

HEY! I read this, and I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM, I ran warcraft 3 on my windows xp and non of the icons appear with pictures, PLEASE HELP, MY DADS COMING HOME IN A WEEK AND IF HE SEES THIS HE WILL GO MENTAL :sigh:
