My computer will not allow me to perform a system recovery. It has
other issues like viruses and the like. I was trying to do a recovery
way before all of the pop ups from different sources saying that my
computer was infested with viruses. I installed AVG and Advir and
after the installation was completed nothing happens. There is no
icons to click on to verify that the programs are doing what they should
be doing. It is like I didn't install them but when I go into the
add/remove in control they are there. Anyway I have a Sony Vaio
desktop PCV-RS720G. I have performed a recovery before and all I
would have to do is click on "Vaio Recovery Wizard" in the control
panel and the recovery process would start. This time I can click
until the sun doesn't shine and nothing happens. It is totally
unresponsive! I made a recovery cd(it is actually 7 discs) the last
time I did the recovery. I put the first disc in the drive and
started the computer and nothing happens. Last time I did the recovery
I forgot to mark one and I stuck it into the drive to see what was on
the disc and when I did the recovery started so this was also another
way to get the recovery rolling. This time nothing! Meanwhile it is
as if I don't have a computer because of the pop ups. I want a clean
slate. Then load some virus and spyware software. Can anyone help?
I do not want to simply fix the virus problem. My computer had other
major issues before those and recovery would be the answer. I already
have everything I want off of the computer because I know files of all
types will be erased when the recovery is performed. I swear this
computer knows that I want to perform this recovery and is pulling out
all the stops to stop me from doing this! I would appreciate any help
you can give even if you tell me that my computer is toast and can't
be fixed.

Boot the computer and hit the F2 key. This should take you to the Bios setup. In the bios look for Boot or something like that. Change the Boot order to be CD rom drive first. Save with a F10. Put your first restore CD in and restart the computer, when you see the message "Hit Any Key to Boot from CD" do so, this should start your recovery CD, follow the prompts. If this fails, test your CD drive by putting another Boot CD in and booting your computer.
